Read It Forward is an annual giving initiative created by author Lana B. Knight, bringing together their love of books, literacy, and community to support children and families.
SickKids Empower Reading Program
Read It Forward supports Empower™ Reading, an evidence-based literacy program from The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) designed to help children who are struggling with reading.
Empower Reading works on skills such as decoding, spelling, vocabulary, and reading comprehension, helping students become more confident, independent, and capable readers. But the program doesn’t stop with the student. It also invests in the educators delivering it.
Teachers who implement Empower Reading receive specialized professional development, including hands-on workshops, opportunities to practise and receive feedback, and ongoing training. They are also supported by experienced Empower Reading mentors and coaches who can visit classrooms, observe lessons, provide feedback, model instruction, answer questions, and help teachers track their students’ progress.
This means support reaches both sides of the classroom: children receive targeted literacy instruction, while educators receive the training, resources, and ongoing guidance to deliver it effectively.

Throughout December, 100% of Lana B. Knight’s profits from Amazon book sales and Kindle Unlimited reads will be donated to Read It Forward.

December Activity
This December, Lana will host a special Read It Forward writing workshop for writers of all experience levels.
Tickets are $10, with 100% of workshop proceeds donated to the Read It Forward campaign.
